When two or more stones of the same color are placed next to each other, they become a "chain." The stones must be right next to each other. Diagonals don't count! In this tutorial, we'll also call a single stone by itself a chain. It will just be a chain with only one stone.

Examples of Chains

In this example, chains 1 and 2 are four-stone white chains; chain 3 is a one-stone black chain; chains 4 and 5 are three-stone black chains; and chain 6 is a five-stone white chain.
